Hi, I'm Jessica Scibek, the Director of Campus Recreation and I'm excited to welcome you to the Beckerman Recreation Center home of Charger Rec. Your health and wellness journey starts here at Charger Rec. We embrace the diverse recreational needs of our students by offering a wide variety of programs, services and facilities. Whether you're looking for competition, fitness classes, physical recovery or outdoor hiking trips, maybe just a chance to find some new friends. We have something for you. The Beckerman Recreation Center is home to many fitness, wellness and sport activities. We host everything from Group X programs to intramurals and club sport programs to adventure Rec. The facility offers a two storey Fitness Center where you can find plate loaded equipment free weights as well as strengthen cardiovascular machines and more. The weight room is complemented by our turf functional training area where students can throw, jump, move, and participate in small group training classes. We have a beautiful view of campus from our cardio machines. But if the treadmill is not for you, we even have a 1/10 of a mile indoor jogging track for running and walking too. We host weekly fitness classes ranging from strength, indoor cycling, dance, and restorative yoga. We'd like to hire students who are certified fitness instructors, and if they're not certified, we can help them get trained and ready to teach. Students looking for some friendly competition can play on a racquetball court, basketball courts, and multi activity court. This is also where students create teams for our popular intramural programs that range from highly competitive seasons, to multiple sports each semester, and single day tournaments throughout the year. We have every level available for indoor sports like basketball and volleyball. Well intramural teams also play on our outdoor turf fields for sports like cricket and flag football. Students can refuel after any activity with our Smoothie Cafe just inside the lobby. Our clubs sport teams also call Charger Rec their home. We advise 20 clubs sports teams, including Ultimate Men's and women's ice hockey, soccer, rugby, and the list grows as our students bring their programs to life. club sport athletes learn teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship while competing Home and Away against other colleges and universities. As the largest student employer on campus we prioritize helping students develop transferable skills, and we use their ideas, their talents, and their feedback to develop all of our programs. So whether you're looking for a place to relieve stress through physical activity and play, or just looking for a place to interact with others and find a sense of community Charger Rec is the place for you. We can't wait to see you.
