Welcome future Chargers. My name is Dr. Curtis Clark and I am the Director of Campus Life and students support in the office of Residential Life. At the University of New Haven, living on campus is a valuable part of the college experience. We provide 17 diverse housing options, each with unique amenities. You will experience independent living alongside your peers, while also having the help and support of our incredible live-in team of professional staff and current students. Our focus is on creating a safe, supportive, inclusive and engaged living/learning environment that will enable you to thrive, the opportunities you will have as a resident student will be integral to your personal and professional development and your ability to develop a true sense of belonging as a member of the Charger community. When you live on campus, you are living with your college family, you have easy access to the resources and support that you will need to excel both in and out of the classroom. Through a vibrant on-campus experience, you will be empowered to take charge of your learning and immerse yourself and everything the university has to offer. Research shows that students who live on campus are more engaged, perform better academically, develop stronger connections with faculty and peers, and are more likely to pursue advanced degrees. Why? Because living is learning. I am most proud of our enhanced learning community program which offers first year students the chance to live with students who have the same or similar academic major. Students who live in our enhanced learning communities routinely meet with their faculty and peer mentors for programs, events, and off campus experiences designed to complement their classroom learning. These events include tutor led study groups, interactive team bonding activities, guest lectures, faculty advising, field trips, and career workshops where students can meet and learn from professionals in their field of study. The Office of Residential Life hosts various social and educational events throughout the year for you to make connections, learn more about campus resources and make the most of your time as a Charger. Our staff also support students by helping them through personal challenges that might hinder their success, and we provide a variety of leadership development opportunities. Above all, living on campus enhances your connection to the community you are a part of enabling you to build relationships that will last you a lifetime. We look forward to helping you find your home away from home as a Charger.
Living on campus has great benefits. Everything is a short walk away from my residential hall. So meeting up with friends, getting a bite to eat, and squeezing in a quick nap in between classes is so easy. Since living on campus, I've also become more involved and gotten more confident in my leadership skills. As a resident assistant, I get to engage students outside of the classroom and build a great community. We have programs that are hosted within the residential halls and campus wide, such as silent disco, trivia, game nights, or even watch parties. Being bored is not an option.
